Nigeria's 50th

Good piece by Al Jazeera on Nigeria's 50th anniversary of Independence with great archival footage.  Thanks to the ever excellent Max Siollun for the link.  I'd love to know where the "250 languages/tribes" idea actually comes from. Of course, it sounds like a nice number, but its 50% of the reality..

Watch the clip here if the video above doesn't work.

I watched it one and a half times over. Really good work.

Looked like Al Jazeera's had the YouTube link disabled. You'll find the embed code on the Al Jazeera site here: http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/africa-states-independence/2010/09/2010921124113186780.html

Jeremy, have you seen the 1992 Documentary series, Journey to Nationhood? It was produced for the FG by WTN Productions. It's probably the most largest compilation of archival footage on Nigeria. It even features footage from the actual 1960 Independence parade. It's a pity it's not available on DVD.

the 250langs is actually an underestimation... the actual number is 507 and coming from adamawa, i completely believe it possible... my LGA alone has 27 languages... all accounted for...

do your research!

Babangida actually smiles at 16.20 when asked about his government being the most corrupt in Nigerian history. Clearly he has good memories of that period of time when the whole country suffered while he and his cronies lived in luxury.

NIGERIANS PLEASE DON'T GIVE THIS MAN ANOTHER CHANCE TO RUIN OUR COUNTRY!!

He clearly does not understand the extent of the damage he did first time round.
