Sustainable Governance in Africa

My eyes glaze over and my ears seal up at the words 'sustainable governance'. It takes someone special, like Paul Collier, to stay rapt. Here. Thanks Sean for the link.

I love the opening. I feel exactly that way when I see those words. I couldn't have put it better myself.

anyone who knows Nigeria can see what he says about it is flawed.

He IS right that Nigeria can only change from the inside,

but that change will only happen if the interests of the narrow band of elites, who soak up all the resources, is fractured.

That way there might become genuine political difference when one goes to the polls, not only sectional or ethnic considerations in the minds of voters.

Thats Nigeria's problem. Not only can people not vote because of the rigging, but if they do vote there is essentially no difference between who they are electing.

Change is therefore impossible
