I opened Ngozi Adichie's fist book and saw the fist line: "things started to fall apart when..." and thought "you're going to have to be bloody brilliant now to get away with that." I didn't think it was.
In Half of a yellow sun there are more "influences" -actually I'd say direct lifts- including (just off the top of my head) the housegirl crying out another persons name when Ugwu is having sex with her.
its a good book, but such direct lifts don't do her talent any favours

Oh nom another Achebe event. Count me out. I'm bored already with this shrining, really!
