Donald Duke might be an idea. Calabar is supposed to be lovely - the houses have to have a fresh lick of paint every year, there's Obudu up-country, and Tinapa business resort nearly finished. The man done good. Click here to here the praise singing.

Hmm. I'm not sure oh... It's not by fine face and Christmas festivals. That said, he is not such a bad idea. He seems like a man who knows a bit about what he should be doing to improve the lot of his people. Not something one can say for the rest of the gang.
There is no doubt that majority of the current state governors with the exception of morons like Alamieyesegha, would do better than any of the erstwhile military dictators that have forcefully usurpedpower. Donald Duke seems to be one of the better ones, but are we saying there are no other more competent persons to contest the elections?

Donald's not bad,compared to others. Judging by his track record.Although not overly impressive,he at least gets things done every now and then.I'm not sure hes tough/mean enough for Naija tho.
Compared to the others if i had to choose between Atiku and his Dog, I think the Rottweiler gets my vote.
With every sense of responsibility, you should not even compare Atiku to his canine. That's too complimentary. Atiku and IBB should not even be given a thought. Like they haven't caused enough harm!

Tinapa sounds great and Obudu & the New Year carnivals certainly seem to have boosted Cross River's tourism, even if only within Nigeria, but are the schools in Cross River any better? The roads, the hospitals? And what happened to those pineapple plantations that were going to feed the world? I'm not in aposition to answer these questions, but perhaps those "on ground" can?
I was disappointed once on a visit home to be overtaken on the 3rd Mainland Bridge by a siren-blaring motorcade escorting his wife and children somewhere...for me it's many of these little things that count...although I find that these things can be catching. I've watched many friends inflate and deflate as they have ascended and descended the Nigerian political ladder...

You said excatly what I was thinking Uknaija. I can honestly answer a few questions...are the schools better? NO, The hospitals? not at all. Is he as devious as all the others? Yes. He is very eloquent no doubt but he just as crooked. The whole festival thing is a good idea, it would boost the economy and i plan on seeing it sometime in the future but how do you expect people to enjoy it to the full extent if they havent been paid for months on end? What excatly is it he wants them to celebrate? I use to go to calabar for chrismas when i was a kid and I still cant remember a single day that water ran from grandmama's taps...it still doesnt run. In as much as he has done good for his state, we shouldn't be blindsided by that, go check it out, he has done a lot of wrongs too....for all our sakes, I hope to god he isnt really campaigning.
You guys are wrong. The schools and hospitals are better. Duke had the professors at unical write textbooks for the primary school students which were sold are very subsidised rates to enable them have books. And from personal experince I know him to have taken positive action whenever there is a problem in the hospital such as firing bad doctors. he even fired his own minister because she choose to build a house in an area without a permit. He's upstanding and has vision. Perhaps some of his goals have not been met, like the pineapple farms, but his others have worked. Cross river is now the second largest producer of cocoa in nigeria, and will soon be first. the last cocoa conference was held there. and in tourism and clealiness he clearly leads the way. is there room to improve? of course, no leader is perfect. But he's the best we have. and he's certainly tough enough to lead naija
I have read the comments of UK Naija and RJ. I am quite suprised and dissappointed in your comments concerning Donald Duke. I am not even from the Ibibio tribe, yet, I can see a visionary in him. You talked about sirens blazing, pineapple plantations non-existent, schools dilapidated and then some. My question to you is if you are in the UK, tell me one project that Tony Blair and his cronies have executed that has benefitted the UK citizens including you since they came into power? DD is a Nigerian and has done his best with limited resources yet no praise? Are you not aware of the fact that what he has done is monumental in Nigerian terms, were corruption is rife? Besides, he inherited a state devoid of amenities. You are not really expecting him to transform it in just 7 or 8 years? Remember, Rome was not built in a day - so also was UK and the US not built in a day. It took centuries. What you are supposed to do is pray for leaders like him to come along more often so when they come along, they will do what their predecessor DIDN'T do -which is, to get all the other areas on to the radar of development.
Uknaija you need to open ur eyes. the next time you visit the land you come from, please take a trip to calabar may be then you would swallow that tongue of urs in shame.
The man has done what no leader in nigeria has ever done with little or no resource. cross river is third from the bottom on the revenue allocation table yet 90% of state has been electrified they have water flowing from every tap with more pressure than you are getting right now in that sweet comfort zone u r in. roads are good and he has promised to complete every single project he has started including the ones he met which by the way he has done. so feel free... thats anytime u r done working for Mac donalds or driving ur cab, go to a cybercafe and check out www.tinapa.com
I believe in giving credit where credit is due, and In the case of Donald Duke, you have to gve the man Credit. In Nigeria were nothing gets done, the man has totally transformed his state with little or no resources. We definately need a visionary to lead us, and I believe this gentleman fits the mould. I sincerely hope he is given the chance to help move Nigeria forward.

Veri interesting! As an african american who is extremely interested in intl business I fin Donal Duke to be somewhat impressive and have the ability to take Nigeria to new heights.
