The largest gathering of gay people in Nigeria ever..

Wonderful. Two fingers to Peter Akinola. Read here.

I am astonished at the bravery it takes to make such a stand in Nigeria. Most Nigerians not only oppose homosexuality, they even refuse to discuss it.

The dignity of these delegates is an important part of the work of changing minds, much in the same way that the dignity of African-Americans in the 1960s changed America. Though I think the struggle for gay rights in Nigeria is unlikely to have as rapid a resolution.

But for many who were assembled, at least there must have been the sense of "I am not alone in this."

It is wonderful to hear such bravery amdist bigotory and double-standards. So many Nigerian queer people have to live under the cloak of silence, hurting themselves and their loved ones in the process. Most of them live their lives in the closet - yet somebody should let them know that humans don't belong in the closet only clothes! Whether we are queer or not, we should make it our duty to stop the suppression, repression and oppression of others. Today it might be the gays, but tomorrow it might be the heterosexual woman who locks her hair. Viva to all those brave souls who dare to come out of the closet.

thanks jeremy once again for bringing this story for our attention.

I advise people to read the book of Genesis and Leviticus- especially the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in the book of Genesis.

I feel sorry that this is being embraced. Why do Nigerians and Nigeria always have to embrace crap from the western world? Gay and you call yourselves Christian? I wonder what Bible they have been reading....

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them. Firstly I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

In Lev. 25:44 it states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to French, but not the Irish. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Irish slaves?

I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them as Lev.24:10-16 says? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

It is interesting how some africans call anyone going against the status quo an adoptee of 'western values' then proceed to quote THE BIBLE. It is a lazy and pathetic way of dealing with social tensions and crises. The bible (and the judeo-christian ethic) did not come from Ondo State. Neither did blogging, cellular technology, or the nuclear family. If you're so against 'western values', you'd better adjust your lifestyle quick before someone calls you a hypocrite.

well put Grace. One of the important Christian teaching is to love thy neighbour as thy self. I am sure Jesus love ethics has no place for homosexual baiting. Jesus is the god of love, of compassion and understanding. He will surely want us to provide comfort to others.

I checked my dictionary for the perfect word.
It turns out to be 'DISGUSTING'!

Just came across this Jeremy - well on the whole the comments were pretty predictable I would say but a few bright lights in the general
darkness of homophobia.
BTW the Changing Attitude has been around for a while and there has always been a "network" of LGBT in Nigeria albeit "underground". At least you get comments - whenever I post on LGBT - I get nothing! interesting!

Sodomy is not only a sin, it's also dirty and disgusting. I am a man with some sense of pride for my self. I can NOT insert my penis into another man's pop hole(never) Well westernization have also brought to light that it is due to some chemical imbalance in the brain that makes the brain to become so compromised, to the extent where it deems okay for a man to assume he is in love with another man. Notice(I did not call them psychiatric patients or people with mental disability) because the bible teaches us to love them anyway and pray that one day they shall be healed of this disease called sodomy (homo sexuality)Thanks Minister Kenneth.E [email protected]
